
For the longest time women and children have been disproportionately affected by multiple and intersectional forms of violence. Gender inequality, entrenched narratives, customs and norms that cause harm limited access to education the lack of tailored services inhibit women and children’s access to justice and to experience a full and balanced life free from violence.
Often times women and children are confronted with a systematic denial of rights which leaves them inferior to their male counterparts in the long run making women and children disproportionally vulnerable to further engrossed into the vicious cycle of abuse and violence This situation calls for advocacy for behavior change, change of practices and social norms. Hence, strategically advocating for gender quality and the protection and promotion of women and children’s right to realize their fundamental potential especially rights to education is inherent in the 21st Century.
In doing so My LEGACY through its Legacy in-school clubs works with teachers and students and school’s administration in 18 schools. The focus of these in-school clubs is to empower children to know about their rights, responsibilities and impact them with leadership skills to proactively advocate for change with in their communities. Moreover, the organization works with women young women in 4 wards in Kinondoni empowering them on their rights. My LEGACY also works with women and children protection committees in collaboration with the Kinondoni District) to further advocate for the protection of women and children rights and championing the end of harmful practices including Female Genital Mutilation and child marriage with like-minded organizations through Tanzania Ending Child Marriage Network (TECMN)
