MyLEGACY and Habitat For Humanity Tanzania Constructed Girl-Friendly Toilets in Kinondoni Schools

MyLEGACY successfully completed the construction and handover of 5 toilet buildings, each equipped with a total of 20 pits, to 5 schools in Kinondoni District, Dar es salaam Region, Tanzania. The primary goal of this initiative was to improve the learning environment and provide support to female students, particularly during menstruation. In addition to the construction of the toilet buildings, the project also included the provision of essential bathroom accessories such as buckets, basins, toilet brushes, and water scoops. The schools that benefited from this project are Daniel Chongolo Secondary School, Kisauke Secondary School, Maendeleo Secondary School, Twiga Secondary School, and Mtakuja Primary School. The success of this project would not have been possible without the invaluable support of Habitat for Humanity Tanzania (HFHT).

The handover of the toilets was a key component of our community mobilization efforts, which involved engaging various stakeholders at the community, government, and school management levels. By raising awareness about the importance of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) activities and their benefits, we were able to garner support for creating a safe and conducive learning environment for all students, especially girls during their menstruation period, in order to help them realize their full potential.
